Salzburg, Austria

There are no Kangaroos in Austria, at least that's what the local t-shirts say.  But they do have castles and amazingly old buildings.  Our AirBnB was built in the 14th century.  Fortunately the interior has been nicely remodeled.

We caught an early morning train from Innsbruck so we were in Salzburg before noon. We found our way to the oldest part of town and our AirBnB was on a pedestrian only street.

Along our street in old town Salzburg.
As I write we are having a Summer thunder storm with buckets of rain.  It's a good thing we have had our Indian dinner and are back in for the evening.

Here's some photos from our sight seeing today.

Terri on the "Lock Bridge".
Thousands of "Love Locks" on this bridge.

Life is good... tomorrow we go to the castle for dinner and a Mozart concert.  He was born a couple block from where we are staying.

I'm a little tired tonight, so all you get is photos.

Good Bye Venice

Venice is now Terri's favorite city in Europe.  I'm split between Florence and Venice.  They are both amazing places that are magical.  Everywhere we looked for the last 8 days has been a true feast for the eyes.  It's hard to imagine what we have seen without being there.  So here are a bunch more photos from our last couple of days.

Steeples and more steeples.

We caught a train to Austria this morning.  The Alps are beautiful.  We are in Innsbruck the first of three cities we will visit here.  Next up will be Salzburg, followed by a longer stay in Vienna.

Life is good.... we will be taking a long break from pizza and pasta.

Venice is Great

Our new neighborhood.
We've settled into our new neighborhood in Venice.  We are on a small canal about a 100 yards off the Grand Canal in a beautiful home.  The family is very nice and the nanny has been very helpful with her information about Venice.

Our room.

Venetian blown glass in our room.
Yesterday we went to the island of Murano to see the shops that blow glass.  They are truly the masters of this craft.  We were able to go into the areas where they were working and watch the process.  It was over 90 yesterday, so the workshops were unbelievably hot with the furnaces going.

Our front yard.
A busy early morning on our street.
All freight, FedEx, and everything else gets delivered by boat.  This is early morning on our street.
WaterBus
So how do we get around?  We purchased a "WaterBus" pass, so we go everywhere by boat.  There are no cars or any other vehicles on the island of Venice.  The choices are: WaterBus, WaterTaxi or gondola.

What's in our neighborhood?  Here's a quick photo tour.

Down the Grand Canal from home.
The passageway from our front door to the canal.
Church bells ring a block away.
You knew I would find the neighborhood bakery.
Our "bus stop" is about 3 minutes from the house.
Gondolas at the end of our street.
S.Toma Square is only 100 feet away.

What are the world traveler doing this morning?  Laundry.  Life is good.... the walk to the laundromat will be exciting.
