Gettin' Our Kicks on Route 66

We're in Gallup, New Mexico.  The best part of where we are staying is that it's on Route 66.  You may have to be a certain age to appreciate and sing along with us.

We spent the morning on the dirt roads of the Ute Indian Reservation.  I'll show you a few of the sights we saw today.

Big rock mountains, petrographs, and barbwire.  That's all you get today because the computer and hotspot are really slow.

We finished 40 miles of very dusty roads around 1:00 and went back to the motorhome and hooked up to head South to New Mexico.  The dusty part became important later in the day.  After driving 120 miles, the dust and dirt from the morning adventure had not blown off the Fit so once we were settled in we took the car to wash a few layers of dirt off.  While we were washing the car Terri asked a lady where the best Mexican food was.  She gave us directions to Jerry's Café.  The name had us a little worried, but when you ask a Mexican person and they tell you where they'd go, you have to trust them.

It was the real thing.
It turned out that Jerry's Café in downtown Gallup was the real thing.  Jerry's been gone for over twenty years but this hole in the wall café with 18 booths was full with only one table open.  And that table became ours.  After we sat down I asked Terri if we were the only gringo's in the whole place?  Yep, we were.

We asked the waitress what her favorites were.  She gave us several suggestions and we each picked dishes we had never eaten before.  It was amazingly good, no it was great.  It would be worth the drive from anywhere to eat this food.

This is no joke.
So what could be better than an amazing dinner?  Maybe when you drive a motorhome that gets 7 MPG finding gas at $3.02.9 per gallon is another reason to like New Mexico.

We will turn right and end up in Arizona sometime tomorrow afternoon.  We'll be driving to Winslow, Arizona to see what the Eagles wrote about in their song, 'Take It Easy".  I'm sure it will be "a fine sight to see".  We'll stand on the corner and see. We'll be running down the road. Was that a girl in a flat bed Ford that went by? She's so hard to find. Is your sweet love going to save me?

Ready to sing along?

It was another very good day.  We seem to have lots of them.  Life is good.
