Capitol of the Republic of Texas

The weather had changed back to sunny but cool.  We were off to the capitol of Texas.  As the story goes, they built their dome 7" taller than the national capitol building to be a little bit better.  We asked a couple Texans about their level of pride in their state, they confirmed what is written on the wall of a capitol building.

It's still a sovereign and independent republic in the minds of  manyTexans.  But only since 1836.

Looking straight up inside the dome.
Looking down in the dome.  Nice floor.

Even the back door is nice.
The grounds around the main building.
There are a dozen other buildings that make up the capitol grounds.  All are impressive.  They are spaced nicely with beautiful lawns, trees and parks between each.  There are more statues than we could count.

The Viet Nam Memorial was the newest statue.  Dedicated March 29, 2014.
Downtown Elgin
On our trip home we stopped in a small town for lunch.  Elgin hadn't changed much since this photo was taken.  Madalin's Diner is the building on the left with the awning.  If you can't see, the Honda is parked between the two buggy's out front.  We had a good lunch.

Sweet tea..... it's what you drink in the South.
I've adapted to being in the South by changing my drink to the local favorite, sweet tea.  It's even better when served in a Mason jar.  Ya'll should try it.

Final shot for the day.

Pun intended.
