A Very Grand Canyon

We've made it to the Grand Canyon.  We are visiting the South side of the canyon because the North side does not open until May.  We are at an elevation above 7,000 feet and we can tell by the cool temperature this evening.

We usually like to stay in state or national parks but there are very limited RV camp sites within Grand Canyon National Park.  Luckily I was reading one of my favorite RV web sites and a fellow gave great directions to a boondocking spot in the National Forest just outside the park.

For those who don't know, our fine government allows for camping in many National Forests free of charge.  You can pull into a totally undeveloped area of the forest and set-up camp.  Of course there is no water, electricity or any sewer hook-up.  It's just you and nature.

But we're not roughing it.  We have two generators, an invertor, LP gas to heat our water and run our fridge and a central furnace to heat the motorhome.  We carry about 100 gallons of water and have holding tanks for gray and black water.  We could run our two air conditioners from the larger generator but it's not that warm.

We may be sitting out in the middle of nowhere "Boondocking" but we aren't roughing it.  We may be roughing it a little, the 4GLTE computer connection is not that fast.  We'll live.

Our location is about one mile out Forest Service Road 302 and is only 3 miles from the park entrance.

It's getting dark out here.  The coyotes are howling tonight.
Being so close to the entrance we couldn't resist running into the park for a very small visit before dark.  Here are a few photos with many more to come.

Eva has to stay at home in the RV tomorrow because dogs are not allowed below the rim of the Grand Canyon.  We will be hiking down a ways so she can't come with us.

"That's a big hole in the ground."
Life is good.  More to come soon.
