Capitol Reef National Park

This picture tells the story of our Friday travels.  We were traveling toward Capitol Reef National Park on Highway 12 in southern Utah.  It is a beautiful drive but included a couple of mountain passes with the highest one being 9,600 feet.  That's just short of two miles high.  Part way through our drive it started snowing.

The roads remained clear so we continued driving.  We were in an area of white barked Birch trees.  The trees and the snow were a perfect match.  By the time we reached Capitol Reef the weather had improved.

For the first time this year we were not able to camp inside the national park as we had planned.  They had 2/3 of their campsites closed for maintenance.  I always have a plan B in place, just in case.  There was BLM land 7 miles away so we picked a great spot and continued our streak of boondocking.  14 of the last 16 days we have dry camped for free or $7.50 per night.

Today we did 4 short hikes inside Capitol Reef.  The longest hike was only 1 1/2 miles.  .The weather was sunny and in the 60's, so it was ideal hiking weather.  We experienced amazing canyons, walked a winding river bed and stood on the edge of shear cliffs.  It was a very good day.

We are still so far out in the boonies that our cellular signal is poor.  The one photo I hope you will receive took one hour to download.

Life is good.  Some day I will plague you all with a ton of photos.
