Kodachrome Basin State Park

We went for a road trip to Kodachrome Basin State Park today.  We wanted to do some hiking and it was only 40 minutes away from our campground in Bryce Canyon.  The drive through this area was great and would have been reason enough to go.  Kodachrome is another amazing place.

All of our views for the last several days have been looking downward into the canyons at Bryce, today we were at ground level looking up.  Which meant it was time to climb up some of those rocks.

Off we went on a dirt trail.
It was one of those hikes that you know you are headed uphill, but the trail was a constant up and down to get to the top.

A long and winding path.
We were glad that it had been dry for several days.  The path is red clay and would have been slippery and unpassable with a little rain.  And there were spots that the width of the path could be measured in inches not feet.  We marched on and didn't look down to our right. No use being scared.

I told her I was coming as fast as I could hike.
The reward and our goal was to reach Shakespeares Arch.  We rounded a bend and could see it in the distance.

Shakespeares Arch
Once we saw it we followed the path to be underneath it.

Up close and personal with Shakespeare.
We could have turned around and retraced our path but we decided to continue all the way around.  The hike provided many more great views down onto the basin flood.

We started out down there somewhere.
Many spires along the way.
We found several faces in the rock formations.  Here is Richard Nixon.

Terri thought it looked more like Bob Hope... I still say Nixon.
Here are two dragon heads staring at us.
We made it to the top and started down.

Through the passage heading down.

Looking back we had walked around this formation and many others.
The dirt road back to civilization.
We drove the rest of the roads in the park to see the sights.

It was another very good day..... Life is good.

Got a gut, but no butt.  The End.
