Mississippi Mud

Yesterday was "Costco Day" for us.  We needed to stock up on several items that Costco is famous for, like the six pack of something we only need two of.

Costco is on the other side of New Orleans from St Bernard State Park.  We have now traveled the same road into town too many times.  It was time for an adventure.  With the help of the GPS mapping in Terri's iPad I choose a route in the opposite direction once we left the park.

I was headed toward what I thought was a bridge crossing the Mississippi.  I was wrong.  When we got there a bridge was not to be found, just a ferry landing.  We drove into line and waited 10 minutes for the next ferry.  The ferry across the river is free, I like that.

Mississippi ferry.
Boarding a Mississippi ferry is different than a Washington state ferry.  The entry is from the side of the ferry and once onboard you drive a complete circle around the deck until you face the opposite direction.  When we arrived on the other side of the river we exited through the opposite side we had entered.  The ferry always stays aimed upstream.

The Mighty (Muddy) Mississippi River.
So do people really "beat their feet in the Mississippi mud?".  Judging from the color of the river there is adequate mud in the river.  Today and the next week would be a good time to have our feet in the muddy waters, it will be over 80 with high humidity every day.

Another colorful state flag.
We did finally reach Costco after many miles of wandering through the Delta.  The trip there inspired me to pick another random route back to the RV.  I love being a little bit lost.  I spotted several more graveyards that need exploring.

Life is good, even when we are little lost.
